about

"Living in Fear," is songwriter Chris Gennone’s first as C.R. and The Nones. Though he’s altered his identity, the songs on Living In Fear represent not so much a full-scale reinvention, but instead a sharpened focus, some tweaks in approach, and most crucially, patience. After demoing a total of twenty songs, Gennone spent a considerable amount of time in the studio, ensuring that each song sounded just right. He poured over the tiniest details and honed in on fleshing out the record’s lush arrangements.

Gennone recorded with longtime collaborator and engineer Max Rauch and enlisted the mixing services of Jeff Ziegler (The War On Drugs, Kurt Vile). The resulting sound is massive. The sonic textures are thicker and more refined, while the guitars and synths are expansive and enveloping. Sonically, it’s Gennone’s most ambitious work to date, showcasing his talent not only as a songwriter but as an arranger as well. Despite some changes in approach, Gennone’s lyrical prowess remains intact, as he once again tells some captivating personal stories on "Living In Fear." Written during what he describes as one of the darkest periods in his life, the songs on the record see Gennone at his most raw and vulnerable, as he recounts some challenging experiences, including a devastating breakup and a period of homelessness.
